CANISTER 135 is made with a one-piece machined 304 stainless steel body, a separate threaded steel cap, diamond knurling, a fitted silicone gasket, and a polished finish. Those choices give a single standard 35mm cartridge a substantial, reusable case that belongs beside the camera you carry.
We designed CANISTER 135 in Washington. This article explains the published construction and the visible details of the finished object. The photographs show the product itself.

What does a one-piece machined body mean?
The vessel is formed from one piece of stainless steel. The wall and base belong to the same body, while the cap is a separate part. Our specification identifies lathe and milling work as part of that construction.
Machining removes material to create the required form. On a lathe the workpiece rotates against a cutting tool; milling uses a rotating cutting tool. Those processes allow the body, interior, and closure features to be formed as part of a considered mechanical object.
The useful distinction for an owner is the construction you hold: a continuous body with a separate cap that screws onto it. We do not publish a machining tolerance, production cycle time, or comparative impact rating.
Why use a threaded cap and diamond knurling?
A threaded cap gives the closure a defined mechanical engagement. Start it squarely and turn gently; stop if it feels crossed or gritty. Clean threads and careful handling matter more than tightening with force.
The crossed pattern around the cap is diamond knurling. Its raised texture gives your fingers purchase as you turn the cap, while the broad top retains the circular finished surface. The detail is both visible and useful every time the case is opened.

What does the silicone gasket do?
The fitted gasket works with the closure to help resist dust and incidental moisture during normal shelf, desk, and bag use. Keep it clean and inspect its condition as part of routine care.
That feature does not establish waterproofing, an airtight seal, or a submersion rating. CANISTER 135 also does not provide temperature control or protection from X-ray and CT scanners. Its role is a dedicated physical case for the cartridge.
Why choose polished 304 stainless steel?
304 stainless steel gives CANISTER 135 its material identity and substantial feel. The polished surface reflects the light around it and makes the shape and finish part of the experience of using it.
At 122 g before adding film, it is a deliberate choice for someone who enjoys a solid metal object. It also shows fingerprints and can acquire fine marks through handling. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and follow the care instructions.
What does the $98 price reflect?
CANISTER 135 brings together the steel body, machined closure, textured grip, fitted gasket, and finished surface in one object. Its price reflects that complete construction and the design of a case intended to be kept and used.
A lower-priced organizer may carry more film. Our reason for making CANISTER 135 is the experience of giving one cartridge a dedicated place in a carefully made object. See the Kodak comparison or the complete case buying guide to choose by your priorities.
How does the construction fit everyday use?
Place one standard 35mm cartridge inside, seat the cap gently, and keep the case in a dedicated compartment away from delicate camera surfaces. Label an exposed roll before storing it. Between outings, the same object can stay in view beside the camera.
Our minimal photography kit shows a practical packing routine. For environmental storage requirements, see how to store 35mm film.
Frequently asked questions
Is CANISTER 135 made from one piece?
The body is one piece of machined 304 stainless steel. The threaded cap and fitted silicone gasket are separate components.
What does the knurled cap do?
The diamond-patterned edge provides a textured grip for turning the cap. It is a visible part of the design as well as the surface your fingers use to open the case.
Will the polished finish stay unmarked?
Polished stainless steel can show fingerprints and fine marks from normal handling. Use a soft, dry cloth and follow the product care guidance.
Is CANISTER 135 waterproof?
No. The closure helps resist dust and incidental moisture during normal use. CANISTER 135 is not waterproof, airtight, climate-controlled, or X-ray / CT proof.
What warranty comes with CANISTER 135?
CANISTER 135 carries a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. The published warranty policy explains coverage and exclusions.
