ABOUT — ARCHIVE 135

An archive of considered objects.

CANISTER 135 beside a metal film camera

01 — ORIGIN

THE MISMATCH

Archive 135 began with a small wrongness. A beautiful metal camera, kept and cared for over years — and beside it, the roll of film in a throwaway plastic canister, treated as packaging. The tool was considered. The thing that held the work was not. We started to close that gap.

02 — THE STANDARD

MADE, NOT MOLDED

Every object has to clear one bar: it is machined from solid stock, not poured into a mold. 304 stainless steel because it lasts; finished because the hand can feel the difference. If a thing can't meet that standard, we don't make it.

03 — RESTRAINT

NOTHING EXTRA

We don't add features. We remove everything that isn't the object. One roll, one canister, one purpose — kept in sight and built to outlast the film inside it. Plastic is made to be replaced. We make things to be kept.

04 — THE ARCHIVE

OBJECT 001

The name is literal. Archive 135 is an archive, not a catalogue — a collection that grows slowly, and only when an object truly belongs. CANISTER 135 is the first entry. There is no schedule of drops, only a standard and the patience to wait for the next thing that meets it.

05 — WHAT'S NEXT

CANISTER 120

The archive is already growing. CANISTER 120 is in the works — the same considered object, made for medium-format 120 film. It arrives when it is right, not when a calendar says so. Object by object, format by format, the archive fills in.

06 — THE MAKER

JOE EITZEN

Archive 135 is designed by Joe Eitzen in Washington — one person holding the standard, deciding what gets made and what doesn't. Kept small on purpose, so every object can stay considered. Made to be kept.
